Perhaps I am, by nature, “obtuse” but I fail to see a problem with the greatest health care delivery system in the world.
I was not surprised to see Karl Marx paraphrased in Mr. Palmer’s argument for government run health care. Progressives, socialists, Marxists, statists, have for over a hundred years, beginning with Theodore Roosevelt, touted nationalized health care. Yes, the republican Roosevelt.
It is clear that Mr. Palmer and his “republican” friend have little understanding of underwriting risk, i.e. insurance. Simply put, so even the most enlightened should be able comprehend: The greater the risk (pre-existing condition, age, etc.), the greater the cost (premium) due to a greater potential for loss.
If one desires to bring down the costs associated with health care, begin with tort reform, period. Limit monetary awards, punitive damages, make loser pay court and other costs of the winner. Summarily dismiss nuisance actions. Disallow contingency fees.
Although I have seen the people, aka props, the democrats dragged across various venues in their latest edition of “let’s sell health care” tour.
The health care of my family and myself is too important to be placed in the hands of the same outfit that brought us Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
The democrat arguments do little to set aside the fears that the patient and doctor will be separated from decisions concerning the patient’s health care and treatment options. And that the patients well being will become secondary to the whims of some nameless authoritarian bureaucrat with orders to “cut cost”.
And the waste, fraud and abuse go on and on and on…..
By the way, I know of no one that has been denied health care due to his or her inability to pay.
